The Original Red Dot Sight
Aimpoint red dot sights are the original red dot sights. Aimpoints have the widest field of view, are 100% parallax free, and are waterproof and shockproof. You do not have to center the dot; you hit where you aim.
They are available in two dot sizes; 4 minute of angle (M.O.A.)= 4" @ 100 yds for precision shooting and 2 minute of angle = 2" @ 100 yds in the 2x versions. Aimpoints have no eye relief so they work on handguns, rifles, or shotguns.
Aimpoint's electronic reflex sights are manufactured using a unique patented double front lens which eliminates the parallax error inherent in other red dot sights.
This feature allows the shooter to get on target more quickly and shoot more accurately, because the dot does not need to be centered inside the sight; if the dot is on it, then you will hit it.
This concept seems impossible but if you think about it you will understand how it works. The scope has no parallax or eye relief, so it will appear that the dot is not in the center sometimes but actually the dot is always in the center.
It is the way that you look through the Aimpoint that changes, unlike a conventional scope that requires that you be perfectly aligned directly behind the unit; you can look through an Aimpoint and shoot from any position and this is what makes the dot appear to "float" when actually it never leaves the center.
The U.S. Army signed a contract with Aimpoint guaranteeing the purchase of 80,000 (with the option of purchasing an additional 20,000) Aimpoint Comp M electronic reflex sights and associated mounts for the M16A2 rifle and M4A1 carbine. Aimpoint sights now become the primary aiming systems for these two military firearms.
