Excellent for the price
I bought the combo deal where a 10x42 H20 bino was included in the package. The bino is actually a good one for keeping in my motorcycle tank bag, which I use for scouting prairie dog towns. I have mainly used the Scout 1000 for ranging prairie dogs, and it is OK for that. The biggest problem is that the laser beam has too much vertical height for ranging small objects close to the ground at shallow angles. Foreground will always be read, but this isn't a Leica CRF at $800 either. I compared to a Redfield Raider 550 and liked the Scout 1000 much better. The Leupold 1000 TBR is better for night use, but it's $400 and no binos in the deal. The Scout ranged a Black Angus cow at 270 yards, and lighter colored antelopes can be ranged to 350 yards. I ranged a white building at 1004 yards, so it meets its claims. In the woods, it ranges my black dog as far as I can see him. The brush and bulls eye modes are useful, as well as ARC. Twice the warranty of Leupold as well. Great at price point.... More
