Peter CronhelmThis was my first deer ever. It was taken at a laser ranged 575 yards with a Winchester Mod 70 in .30-06. The scope is a Super Sniper SS10x42. The Leica 1200 laser range find was absolutely critical to this shot because even a small range error could have resulted in a miss. The Tasco SS10X40 scope is simply the best for long range shooting because it allows such easy windage and elevation corrections. This shot was relatively easy but later that day I connected the most difficult shot of my life and the big Tasco SS10X42 played an integral part in my success. My hunting buddy had seriously wounded a big Mulie doe and she was in the process of making her escape. Mark and I ran over 800 yards down the ridge we here hunting from in pursuit of the doe. I had only three rounds left in my pocket so the pressure was on to stop the doe before we lost her for good. The fence that I had hoped would stop the wounded doe only slowed her down a bit but it was enough. As we jogged after the fleeing deer, I calculated range estimations in my head and clicked them into the elevation turret of the big Super Sniper SS10x scope. We reached the fenceline and flopped down into shooting position. The doe was about 300 yards distant but only a hundred yards from cover as I got the scope's Mil Dot crosshairs on target and began tracking her. Suddenly I realized she was not going to stop to give me a shot. I started to give in to panic at the thought of losing this wounded doe because she wouldn't stand still. Suddenly I realized, I had made shots like this a dozen times in competition where we shoot 400m moving targets. Calm overcame me as I applied the lead on the Mil Dot reticle and squeezed the trigger of the Model 70. The rifle bucked and I actually saw the bullet hit high on the spine just behind the base of the neck. The doe dropped dead in her tracks. Except for the fact I forgot to subtract some drop for the downhill angle, it was an almost perfect shot and by far the most difficult I have ever attempted before or since. Without the Super Sniper SS10x42's big hand adjustable turrets, I would never have been able to dial in the range correction on the run. Without the Mil Dot reticle I wouldn't have been able to accurately track a moving target. So for several reasons I owe the success of this shot to the fantastic SS scope. I think so much of these scopes that have them on all my hunting and varmint rifles.
