Don't know if I would have ever seen this elk if I hadn't been looking.

We hunted hard for days without seeing anything but a few whitetails. The sun was headed down and we were headed back to camp. I kept stopping and looking in every crack and group of trees for any elk cow or bull. I knew we were backtracking and my chances were slim but I am often able to spot game that you would never see with the naked eye while using Steiner binoculars equipped with their proprietary C.A.T. (color adjusted transmission) coatings. They enhance the color of game and reduce the color of brush and tress....and they really work amazingly well.

The Steiner's also use individual eye focus allowing me to scan any distance with out having to mess with refocusing. I could stop glass for a second and catch up to my hunting partner with ease.

Lucky for me that I kept doing this because I spotted two bull elk about 500 yards away. We were coming down one side of what a Texan calls a mountain and the elk were on the other side going up. We could only get to the bottom of the timber line before revealing our position. I did not feel comfortable shooting at what appeared to be a very long range but once we ranged them they were a surprising 300 yards (line of sight) from us. I still held a little higher than I should have out of habit and adreline rush I guess. The big boy went straight down in his tracks (evidence of taking out his electrical system as apposed to his hydrolics). It's nice when that happens but difficult to do on purpose.
