Wesley RuebmanIt was a cold afternoon in December down in South Texas. I had an unsuccessful hunt that morning. We had seen this monster 10 point, but he never came out from behind the trees. We decided to go back that afternoon to see if he would come back to the feeder. All afternoon we waited, but he never came. Then, right as we started to packup, I saw a bunch of does coming to the feeder. Then from behind a tree came this huge buck. It was getting late in the evening, and dad thought it was another doe. But I knew better. I convinced my dad to take another look, and sure enough it was a big 9 point buck. Immediately I start shaking with buck fever. I finally got my Remington youth .243, bolt action rifle up, but I was shaking so bad that I couldn't get my sights clearly on the kill point of the deer. So I took a deep breath, calmed myself, looked through my Simmons Aetec 2.8-10x44 scope, and took a clean shot. He dropped like a sack of potatoes. We waited for 10 minutes, and the buck fever finally subsided. We anxiously walked down the hill to get my buck. He as a 9 point, 145 pound buck, from Sonora, Texas. There is no better feeling than getting you first buck. My dad shoulder mounted the buck for me so we could all look at it and remember the moment.
