This particular coyote was one of the two that was killing my neighbor's sheep in northern Utah for the past two years. They have been pretty hard on that band of sheep. They hunted them with planes and several other guys tried calling, snaring and trapping them with no luck. I finally saw them crossing the fence line about 3/4 of a mile away with my 8x30 Military/Marine Steiner binoculars. Finally this dog moved into 50 yards and I dispatched her with my 22.250. I use a Savage Model 112 with stainless fluted heavy barrel, equipped the Sharpshooter trigger adjusted to 18 oz. It’s a pretty light trigger to hunt with and when your fingers are cold it seems way lighter than that. Mounted in my Leopold one piece base and dovetailed rings is a Redfield 3-9x50 scope I picked up at a place called SWFA.

A week later I got the other coyote into 200 yards, I couldn’t really make him out in the sagebrush to get a shot at him, so I give a squeeze on my squeaker call. He bailed out of there like I had shot at him. I hollered at him and he stopped just short of 300 yards. I shot and hit him where his shoulder blade and ribs come together. That spun him to the left and the next shot missed and he change directions and headed away from me again. He was heading towards a wash and I figured he would use a spot where a cow trail drops into it. He was just a few yards away from the cow trail and I barked at him and he stopped. That shot killed him. I ranged him with my Bushnell compact 800 rangefinder at 458 yards. The less money spent on optics the more you can spend on hunting. Thanks SWFA for helping me hunt more.
